Savor Santa Fe: Wine Pairing Dinner

All of our pottery experiences are one-time, two-hour sessions guided by local Santa Fe artists and geared toward travelers, newbies, and anyone looking for a fun introduction to pottery. At the end of class, students will recycle their pieces, but you need not walk away empty handed. Each student gets $15 off of a piece from our gallery, which is full of pottery handcrafted by our teachers. 

In the wheel-throwing experience, students will dive into the most popular method of making ceramics. Working at the wheel is a meditative, yet challenging process. In this two-hour class, our potters will take you through the process of throwing a piece of pottery on the wheel. 

In our hand-building experience, students will learn the ancient techniques of working with clay by hand through sculpting, coil-building, or slab-building. The slowness of these methods allow for deeper connection with the material and total freedom of expression through clay.

With 30 years of teaching experience, a NM Level 2 Art Teaching license, 10 years of experience as the founder and executive director of the Tarnoff Art Center(a 501c3) based here in the Santa fe area, and the current co-owner of Artful Soul Creative Experiences in Downtown Santa Fe, Laura brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to her classes. On this 2.5-hour walking tour, we’ll explore how author Willa Cather was inspired to write her "best book" (her words), "Death Comes for the Archbishop" by retracing her steps through Santa Fe in 1925 and 1926.

Our walking route covers about 1.5 miles, mostly on sidewalks, but also climbs a hill to the Cross of the Martyrs with its outstanding view of the city below. During our time together, we'll explore aspects of the novel, such as Kit Carson, Padre Antonio José Martínez, and of course Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy, New Mexico's first Catholic archbishop and the real-life inspiration for the fictional Bishop Latour in Cather's book.
